
The winter temperature in northern regions is usually below zero degrees, and the anti freezing problem of closed cooling towers is becoming increasingly prominent. If not solved well, it may freeze and damage the heat exchange tubes or other components of the cooling tower. According to different process characteristics, some closed cooling towers operate all day in winter, some operate during certain time periods, and some are almost unused. But we all need to consider the issue of antifreeze.
1. Antifreezing measures for occasions where winter is basically not needed
If the closed cooling tower does not need to operate in winter, the spray water and internal circulating water must be drained when shutting down. It is recommended to use compressed air for forced emptying of internal circulating water, and it is not recommended to use emptying for carbon steel pipe heat exchangers to prevent freezing.
2. Antifreezing issues in situations where operation occurs during certain periods of time
The anti freezing of a closed cooling tower consists of two parts: the spray water system and the internal circulating water system (softened water).
The anti freezing problem of the sprinkler water system is usually solved by adding an electric heater in the water tank, which is usually turned on when the sprinkler water is below 5 ℃ and stopped above 8 ℃. The temperature probe transmits signals to the control cabinet, automatically controlling the start and stop of the electric heater. The power selection of the electric heater is determined based on the circulating water volume and external temperature.
The antifreeze of the internal circulating water system can be achieved by adding ethylene glycol solution or adding electric heating equipment. The freezing point temperature of ethylene glycol solution should be selected below the local minimum temperature.
For larger cooling system applications, it is possible to consider digging a water tank to pour spray water into it, which can save power consumption costs due to electric heating operation. Additionally, drugs can be added to the water tank to improve the water quality of the spray water.
3. Anti freezing problem in environments that operate year-round
A closed cooling tower that operates year-round, if equipped with an electrical control system, may experience changes in the number of cooling towers due to changes in the load of the main system, so antifreeze issues also need to be considered. Unused equipment can be emptied before winter to prevent freezing.
With the continuous development of science and technology, enclosed cooling towers will inevitably usher in greater development and application space.
