Working principle and advantages and disadvantages of counterflow cooling tower
A counter current cooling tower is a device that absorbs heat from a system and releases it into the atmosphere to reduce water temperature; Its cooling is an evaporative heat dissipation device that uses the principles of heat exchange between water and air flow to generate steam, which evaporates and carries away heat to achieve evaporative heat dissipation, convective heat transfer, and radiative heat transfer, in order to dissipate the waste heat generated in industry or refrigeration air conditioning and reduce water temperature.
A counter current cooling tower is a device that can cool water. Water exchanges heat and mass with the air flowing through it, causing a decrease in water temperature.
1. Water is in the packing inside the tower, with water flowing from top to bottom and air flowing from bottom to top. The two flow in opposite directions in a cooling tower.
2. The countercurrent cooling tower has good thermal performance and is divided into three cooling sections:
① The space from the water distributor to the top of the packing is relatively hot, so heat can still be transferred to the air.
② Filling water and air heat exchange section.
③ The filling to the water collection tank space is called the "tail effect", where the water is cooled. In northern China, the water temperature can drop by 1-2 ℃. In summary, the counter current tower has a filling volume that is about 20% smaller than the cross current tower under the same conditions, and the heat exchange process of the counter current tower is more reasonable and the cooling efficiency is higher.
3. The water distribution system is less prone to blockage, the water filling material is kept clean and less prone to aging, the moisture reflux is small, and the anti freezing and de icing measures are easier. Multiple units can be combined for design, and in winter, the required water temperature and quantity can be combined to operate a single unit or all fans can be turned off.
4. Construction, installation, and maintenance are easy and cost-effective, commonly used in air conditioning and industrial large and medium-sized cooling circulating water.
Advantages and disadvantages of counterflow cooling tower
1. The counter current cooling tower occupies a small area and has a slightly higher efficiency in the same volume compared to the cross current type (water is more evenly dispersed on the heat dissipation fins through mechanical movement, which improves the unit heat dissipation efficiency of the heat dissipation fins).
2. It can generate a larger water temperature difference than the cross flow type.
3. The internal structure is complex, and the internal rotating water distributor is prone to malfunction, and maintenance is inconvenient after a malfunction occurs.
4. It is more likely to produce algae and sludge, which can cause blockage of the water distributor and require higher sterilization and algae removal.
5. The requirements for drug addition are high, and the internal components such as the rotating mechanism are also made of metal, except for the pipelines.
6. The requirements for water head pressure and pump configuration are high.
7. The efficiency of a counter current cooling tower decays quickly, and the subsequent cooling capacity decays rapidly.
