What are the anti freezing measures for closed cooling towers?
In some office projects, closed cooling towers are often used for data room air conditioning and hotel cold storage, which generally require year-round operation. Therefore, anti freezing measures should be considered for winter operation, and unused cooling towers can be emptied.
The heat dissipation capacity of a closed cooling tower is designed and selected based on the hottest weather in summer. In other seasons, especially in winter, the heat dissipation capacity may be too high. When a closed cooling tower is in operation, even if the ambient temperature is above zero degrees, the closed cooling tower may lower the water in the pipeline to zero degrees or even freeze. The circulation or water spray icing inside a closed cooling tower may cause the pipes, heat exchange tubes, and other components inside the tower to rupture. To prevent such accidents from happening, it is particularly important to prevent equipment from freezing in winter, especially in the north.
Antifreeze requirement: The ambient temperature should be above 3 ℃. If the equipment operates continuously, there is no need for antifreeze. When the ambient temperature is between 0 ℃ and -5 ℃, anti freezing measures must be taken to shut down the machine for more than 3 hours. When the ambient temperature is below -5 ℃, anti freezing measures must be taken to shut down the machine for more than 1 hour.
Add antifreeze (or ethylene glycol), the specific amount can be consulted with the antifreeze supplier according to the temperature. We provide the following reference materials. Please add antifreeze according to the local climate conditions and the purchased ethylene glycol content in proportion. The water in the circulating water tank does not need to be too much, it can circulate to reduce the amount of antifreeze used.
For large systems, especially large water tanks, the cost of adding antifreeze is higher. A set of antifreeze can be added to the cooling tray tube. (See schematic diagram of adding antifreeze system)
Detailed steps:
1. Close valves a and b from the supervisor to the system, and cut off the inlet and outlet pipes of the cooling tower.
2. Open valve 1 and valve 2 to discharge most of the water in the coil first.
3. Add antifreeze to the antifreeze bucket (see the dosage table for the ratio).
4. Close valve 1. Valve 2, open valve 4. Valve 3. Open the micro pump under the antifreeze tank to circulate the antifreeze in the coil (about 1 hour).
5. After mixing the antifreeze evenly in the coil, connect it to the bucket under valve 2, open valve 1 and valve 2, put the antifreeze into the bucket, and add a small amount of antifreeze for use in other cooling towers. The remaining liquid inside the coil can prevent freezing.
In addition, when the temperature is below 2 ℃, please drain the water spray and empty the water in the spray pump.
