There may be many reasons for water leakage in a closed cooling tower, which could be due to prolonged use or aging of the tower. Even newly installed closed cooling towers may experience water leakage, so do not panic as it may be caused by deviations in the manufacturing process.
Different solutions for water leakage in different parts of a closed cooling tower
Currently, most enclosed cooling towers on the market are made of materials that are not easily corroded or damaged, such as galvanized steel plates and fiberglass. The coolant also flows inside the enclosed copper tube, theoretically there should be no water leakage, but why do people always report that their cooling tower is leaking?
Based on experience, we have summarized the main parts of leakage in closed cooling towers: corrosion damage and leakage of the tower body, leakage of the tower section connection, pipeline leakage, and water pump leakage. Here are some methods to prevent leakage in closed cooling towers:
1. Corrosion and leakage of tower body
This part experiences water leakage because the long-term corrosion of the operating environment has affected the tower material, resulting in uneven thickness of the tower. Destructive water leakage can occur in thinner areas. The sealing methods for fiberglass cooling towers include surface cleaning, polishing cleaning, degreasing with cleaning agents, epoxy repair agents, and reinforcement with fiberglass tape.
2. Leakage at the junction of the tower body and the water tank
When assembling a closed cooling tower, the aluminum zinc plate should be tightly sealed with sealant. Long term operation and the impact of water spray can cause deformation of the cooling tower body, resulting in the detachment of sealant and water leakage at the connection. Leak sealing method: As each section is made of aluminum zinc plate, we can fill the gaps inside the cooling tower with sealant to seal the leak.
3. Leakage of connecting pipe
When connecting the pipeline to a closed cooling tower, some flanges and elbows will be connected; Based on past experience, a sealing ring will be added between two connections during the connection process. If there is a leak in the pipeline, the main reason is that the pipeline connection is not tight, and the sealing ring is damaged or displaced, which will cause the seal to be unstable and result in water leakage. Leak sealing method: We can tighten the pipeline or replace it with a new sealing ring.
4. Water pump leakage
Leakage of the closed cooling tower water pump can also cause unstable pressure and lead to system overheating or shutdown; Water pump leakage is relatively rare in daily life, mainly due to surface wear of the pump machinery or failure of mechanical sealant. Leakage prevention method: readjust the dynamic and static balance, and replace the water pump seal. If water leakage is found in the closed cooling tower, there is no need to worry. We will first investigate which part is leaking and deal with it in a timely and targeted manner.
